You
are probably familiar with three different types of dental x-rays,
intraoral (standard dental), panoramic and CT. Intraoral x-rays are the
type most common in dental offices. Using a small packet of film or a
digital sensor, intraoral images are limited to only a couple teeth.
Panoramic machines rotate around your head for a large-sized, survey
film, that often lacks detail. Medical CT scanners usually require
patients to lie down in order to take three-dimensional images of your
head for various oral problems or in planning for dental implants.
NewTom
CBCT takes 3D pictures that are larger and have more detail than either
intraoral or panoramic images. Compared to a standard medical CT
scanner, the NewTom CBCT is significantly safer, using 100-200 times
less radiation while providing dental images that are more accurate.
Needing only seconds, the data are reformatted in an infinite number of
ways. This enables your doctor to view your jaws and head from any
angle to help determine the best way to diagnose and treat your
particular need.
