NewTom Cone Beam CT Low Radiation 3D Imaging
Less Radiation (100-200 times) than traditional medical CT scanners, with greater accuracy Smart Beam senses size of each patient to deliver the least amount of radiation needed. This is especially important for children.
- Fast, simple, comfortable, open, safe
- Limitless views means total treatment planning
- 3D images visualize all anatomic structures for improved treatment outcomes
- Digital record can be stored indefinitely and easily shared with other doctors
While most dental procedures are straightforward and require a simple two-dimensional dental x-ray to help your doctor plan your treatment, other more complicated procedures require as much information as possible to safely and effectively plan and execute those procedures. Fortunately, technology is now available that can simply and painlessly deliver complete information regarding your condition in just seconds. It is called NewTom 3D Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) and is the newest and most advanced kind of x-ray tomography available in dentistry.
How is NewTom Different than Other Forms of X-Rays?
You are probably familiar with three different types of dental x-rays, intraoral (standard dental), panoramic and CT. Intraoral x-rays are the type most common in dental offices. Using a small packet of film or a digital sensor, intraoral images are limited to only a couple teeth. Panoramic machines rotate around your head for a large-sized, survey film, that often lacks detail. Medical CT scanners usually require patients to lie down in order to take three-dimensional images of your head for various oral problems or in planning for dental implants. NewTom CBCT takes 3D pictures that are larger and have more detail than either intraoral or panoramic images. Compared to a standard medical CT scanner, the NewTom CBCT is significantly safer, using 100-200 times less radiation while providing dental images that are more accurate. Needing only seconds, the data are reformatted in an infinite number of ways. This enables your doctor to view your jaws and head from any angle to help determine the best way to diagnose and treat your particular need.
What Will I Experience During a Scan?
The NewTom CBCT scanner makes taking a 3D dental image easy. You may stand or sit while being scanned, and it can accommodate wheelchair-bound patients. Once your head is correctly positioned, the top of the scanning unit rotates quietly around your head. The scan takes less than 30 seconds. Soon after the scan is taken, your doctor will have all the information he or she needs to safely plan your procedure.

Sirona Laser Treatment
How does it work?
Inflammation and occasional bleeding of your gums is caused by tartar. Initially, Dr. Perry will remove the tartar from the root surface of the tooth using an ultrasonic scaler and small instruments. Then, he will place the tiny fiber, which directs the light energy from the laser, gently in between your gum and teeth. The light energy helps to reduce the bacteria associated with the disease. After the affected area is cleansed, the body is able to heal itself naturally.
Does it hurt?
Generally, the procedure is virtually painless;however, in order to lessen your discomfort, the area may be anesthetized. Most patients find that their post procedure discomfort is greatly reduced in time and severity as compared to conventional periodontal surgery.
How long will it take?
The first treatment will focus on scaling and the use of small instruments to remove the tartar. Then, the laser portion of the treatment will be performed. Depending on the severity of the periodontal disease, treatment may be accomplished in one office visit or multiple visits. Dr. Perry will discuss your estimated treatment time when your treatment plan is reviewed.
Does this treatment cost more than traditional gum surgery?
The same billing codes are used for laser treatment and traditional gum surgery. Other factors which may affect the cost include the severity of the periodontal disease and how many teeth are involved. Due to the remarkable speed of the laser, reduced anesthesia, and increased comfort for patients, this new system is extremely attractive to dental practices. You should note, however, that many insurance plans pay for only a portion of the treatment. Please discuss your payment options with Dr. Perry’s staff prior to beginning laser treatment. In order to reduce further damage to your gums, teeth, and bone, we recommend that you begin treatment immediately.
Chairside Oral Scanner
Dr. Perry will change the way you feel about the dentist chair.
If you’re like most patients, having a traditional impression taken of your teeth is a messy and uncomfortable experience. Even more concerning, it can yield less-than-precise results. Until now. Dr. Perry is proud to announce his office is the first and only practice on Long Island equipped with the Chairside Oral Scanner. This breakthrough technology is the easiest, quickest and most accurate way to take dental impressions today.
How it works
Unlike the old-fashioned method of having to bite down into an unpleasant putty compound to create an impression, a 3D image is taken with a wand called the Lava™ Chairside Oral Scanner, about the size of an electric toothbrush. Dr. Perry glides the wand over your teeth to capture data, which produces real-time video images. With the aid of a touch-screen monitor, you and Dr. Perry are able to review your case and discuss treatment immediately-while you’re still in the chair. The whole process takes just minutes. In the meantime, your video impression is sent to the lab electronically, which will formulate an accurate, high-quality precision-fitting dental restoration.
